The Rags Debut Album...Finally
Posted:  12/08/2009
Possibly the best news on the Irish music scene this year is that 'The Rags' have just announced detailed, concrete release plans for their much anticipated debut album.  The album is slated for release in March 2010 and the title is "A National Light".  The first single to be lifted from the album will be "A Mirror To A Woman (Is A Bullet In A Gun)", which will be released on September 25th.  Having seen them in The Academy last Friday, it only whetted the appetite for more Rags material to follow on from the "Monsters And I" and "Razors And Ropes" EP's.  I can now put away all of my freshly penned Guns N Roses "Chinese Democracy" jokes.

White Stripes Movie Premiere
Posted:  23/07/2009

On September 18th, the Toronto Film Festival will host the premier of The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights, a film documenting the bands tour across Canada in the summer of 2007.  Directed by Emmett Malloy, who had worked with the band on past music videos, the film captures a very unique look into the on and off stage lives of Jack and Meg White through a series of shows which included not only traditional venues, but also matinee gigs at unusual performance venues such as a bowling alley, on a boat and even on a city bus - culminating in a momentous 10th anniversary show at the legendary Savoy Theater in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.

The tour showcased in Under Great White Northern Lights was born shortly after the release of their 6th and most recent album Icky Thump, when The White Stripes embarked on a tour that would allow them to perform in every province and territory in Canada, from B.C. to Newfoundland to Nunavut. With this goal in mind, the band welcomed Emmett Malloy on the road, providing him unprecedented access which enabled him to create the very visual and emotive feature length film, uniquely capturing one of the worlds biggest and certainly most enigmatic bands playing to crowds in towns of all sizes across Canada.

In a captivating mix of striking live footage and poignant off-stage moments, this documentary is a celebration of The White Stripes 10 year history, bringing the band full circle in their career to a place reminiscent of how they first started out; shows where no one knew who they were, and where they were left to make a first impression with their music.  With this compelling view into the bands career, Under Great White Northern Lights will in turn allow fans to reminisce about where they were when they first heard The White Stripes as well as adding another impressive piece of work to their already stunning artistic cannon.

The following farewell message from Against Me's Drummer Warren Oakes has just been posted:
After coming to the conclusion that it was time to start a new chapter in his life, Warren Oakes has left Against Me!. While we don’t rule out the possibility of some day playing music together again, for now the four of us feel like this is the best decision to make. We’d like to wish Warren the best of luck with his new Mexican Restaurant, “Boca Fiesta”, which he just opened in Gainesville.

"I've spent the past 8 years making beautiful music with my best friends and sharing it with amazing people all over the world. I've had the honor and privilege of traveling with the most dedicated road dogs on the planet and sharing the stage with the greatest bands. I have been embraced by so many with such graciousness and hospitality and love. Thank you so much to everyone who helped make the dream a reality, especially Tom, James and Andrew. I've had the time of my life, and I owe it all to you." - Warren Oakes

Bad News For Irish Music - Delorentos to Split
Posted:  Tuesday 17 February 2009
This has just been announced on the Delorentos Website:
We've got some sad news.
It's with a very heavy heart that we have to let you know that Ronan has decided to leave the band. He feels its best for him to move on and do other things. The three of us will still be making music and will let you know about what happens next.  As our songs always came from the four of us playing together we've also decided that it wouldn't feel right to continue "delorentos" without him.  We're all very proud of the songs we've written over the last year, we feel they're some of the best we've ever done, and as a result we're determined not to discard them or let them go.  Next month, the four of us are going to record this album together and plan on making it something we'll all be proud of. It'll be our last collection of songs as delorentos, and we hope you'll like them.  We want to thank everyone that's supported us since we started, we'd never have gotten this far without you. We hope to play a gig or two to say goodbye.
We'll be in touch soon with more details.
Ross, Niall and Kieran and Ro.
